Course in Diagnostic Medical Mycology 2019

The course will be held in the Biomedical Sciences laboratories at Leeds Beckett University from June 10-14th, 2019.
AIMS AND CONTENT
The course is essentially a practical course supplemented by lectures, clinical case studies and discussion groups and is aimed mainly at biomedical scientists and registrars in microbiology, ID and related areas. It will provide enough information to enable the participants to undertake the routine procedures used in the laboratory diagnosis of fungal infections.
The course will start with basic mycology and then deal with the clinical features, epidemiology, pathogenesis and laboratory diagnosis of the superficial, subcutaneous and systemic mycoses. This will include the characteristics and identification of dermatophytes and yeasts, serological tests and laboratory monitoring of antifungal therapy.
LECTURERS AND DEMONSTRATORS
All the lecturers and demonstrators on the course are experienced mycologists who have many years’ experience working in routine diagnostic mycology laboratories.
The course fee for the week, including VAT, is £840. The course fee includes all course materials and drinks during the morning break (there is no afternoon break). Please note that lunch is not included in this fee, but there are cafés on the Beckett University site which sell both hot and cold food.
BSMM Diploma/MSc students may be required to pay an examination fee for the examination which will take place on the afternoon of June 14th.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide accommodation during the course, but there are many hotels and B&Bs near the University and city centre. The course is held in the Biomedical Sciences building on Portland Way and there are various hotels locally in Leeds city centre.
